HISTORY
The Sam Houston Square and Round Dance Association was organized in the summer of 1967. Willie and Jolyn Weiss were elected as the first Presidents. The Association then joined and became the 17th member of Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers in November 1967. The Association has continued to be active members of the State Federation since that time and is now identified as District 12 of the Federation and comprises an area containing all or parts of twenty Texas counties generally east of Austin, north of Houston, south of Lufkin, and west of Jasper. There are currently five member clubs in the Association.

TSFSRD Past presidents include Curtis and Jo Young (1980-81) who retired to the area after serving the South Texas Association for many years; Jackie and Althea Elliott (1998-99); Mickey and Dianne Smith (2002-03), and Norman and Daris Horn (2005-06). The District was also home to (Joe) and (Velma) Goodlett, who in addition to Curtis and Jo Young and Jackie and Althea Elliott have been recipients of the prestigious LeeRoy Award, a state award which is periodically awarded in recognition of contributions to square dancing in Texas.
